Brief history of Shreyas:
Hotel Shreyas needs no introduction to a Punekar, who knows that this is the place which serves Authentic Maharashtrian delicacies out of which some of are lost recipes or rather today’s generation aren’t aware off.
Shreyas recognised as leading and trusted name for delivering authentic Maharashtrian food, is business running down three generation of Chitale family. Shreyas Thali covers almost all regions of Maharashtra. The best of each region is picked up and served in one Thali, without compromising the taste and authenticity of its origin.
Started in 1966 with lodging facility at Deccan Gymkhana, Pune, is counted as one of the most homely places to stay at Pune. Within 5 years, i.e. by 1971, dining Hall was started, catering authentic Maharashtrian food. All the recipes were designed with perfection to details.
In 1992, independent outdoor catering wing was started. Soon spreading the authentic Maharashtrian taste across various functions; catering Walchandnagar, Baramati, Satara, DSK Toyota Showroom inauguration at Ahmednagar, Prestigious inaugural function of Balaji Mandir at Ketkawale, Catering at Rahul Bajaj Residence, Catering at Thermax upon Narayan Murthy’s request & many more. Few of the esteemed clients include: DSK group, TCS, NCL, Bank of Maharashtra, Bharat Forge, Walchandnagar Industries, Maratha Chamber of Commerce, Serum, Bharati Forge, ARDE Pashan, Kirloskar Oil Engine, AFMC Conference, HEMRL, ARDE, IISHER etc.
Now with well established roots and backup of experience there was vision to serve catering/food outside India. In 2007, they got opportunity to serve Maharashtrian food at 13th cultural convention Seattle (USA) organized by BMM (Brihan Maharashtra Mandal of North America). BMM invited Shreyas for providing consultancy services in food preparation and catering during the convention. Shreyas was member of catering production team and served about 2000 guests for 2 days.
In 2010 it was time for another catering venture outside India. Shreyas participated in Munich, Germany food festival. They operated a restaurant with sitting capacity of 100 guests for one week in Munich exactly in the same style as Shreyas at Pune and the response was incredible.
Their Outdoor Catering division manages five different venues Shouryashree Halls And Lawns, Sinhagad Road, Cygnus Banquets, Gharkul Lawns, Suvarnasmrith Hall and Siddharth palace Kothrud.
My Views about Shreyas:
I also consider the thali as a ‘Sattvik’ Thali as it has all the necessary ingredients and it’s a nutrition rich Thali which won’t harm what you gobble up.
I was invited by the 94.3 Radio One Pune team for the tasting of Shreyas Thali, Along with the owners Mr. Chintamani Chitale, and from the third generation, Mr. Mandar and Radhika Chitale were present to share the journey of 51 years of Shreyas.
The Delicious thali:
Masale bhat: This is also served with the regular steam rice. Masale Bhat was perfectly cooked with good amount of spice level.
Aluchi bhaji: This comes from their signature recipe, and it’s not easy to achieve the perfect balance of thickness and sweetness.
Tomato sar: Its Maharashtrain version of Tomato Soup, warm and soothing.
Aamti: Generally you will notice that typical Maharashtrain Dishes has a sweet lingering after taste, and that was well explained by Chintamani sir due to use of Jaggery and sugar as and how the recipe demands. Even the Aamti had spice but with a hint of sweet after taste.
Batata suki bhaji: There is always one dry bhaji in the thali, and no doubt batata bhaji is liked by every age group, just there are some variations in it.
Vatana rassa & Patwadi rassa: To change palate this rassa bhaji are made spicy.
Batate wada: This was just not the regular wada which you get at other places, This Wada had no turmeric (haldi Powder) added to it, and it was mild in taste.
Dahi vada: Wada was small in size and the curd was aptly mix of sweet and sour.
Puri/chapati & Methi paratha: Methi Paratha is an addition to the breads served.
Tomato Koshimbir: As we all know that curd helps us to digestion., any Maharashtrain meal is absolutely incomplete without curd or koshimbir.
